Zebiba

I slept, and I dreamed that life was all joy
I woke, and saw that life was but service
I served, and discovered that service was joy

My heart is full of joy
to join The Sole of Africa Campaign

Zebiba

Healing Bridges was founded by Zebiba, who was born and raised in the East African country of Eritrea. “When Eritrean freedom fighters mobilized to resist Ethiopian colonial occupation, continual massacres in her village finally forced her to escape as a child across hundreds of miles, leaving behind her parents. Witnessing atrocities during the war and fleeing as a refugee strengthened her resolve to one day make a difference.”

Zebiba chose paths along the journey of her life that took her far away from the child she was curled up on the ground to escape deadly gun fire and knives. Her self-education and beauty led to her   in a number of businesses.

In 2002 her thoughts of what she could do to give hope to others, led her to start asking questions that became too pressing to ignore. She embarked on first a quest to inform and educate herself on micro lending and schools in india and Afghanistan. Then to make a journey back to her homeland, despite non profits or united nations being forbidden. Her conviction led her to rise above all obstacles and accomplish something that many said was impossible; to help Eritrean women and children.

“In my travels I have seen the signs of positive impact that Micro-lending could bestow on the poorest of the Poor. It just made sense to me that if I am to cause a child to have an education, then I must provide an empowered future to a mother who is looking after the entire family,” she says. Healing Bridges now has 200 children in school and mothers receiving micro loans.

In 2008 Zebiba is committed to expand Healing Bridges reach for education and micro loans in association with The Sole of Africa.

She has a book being published Spring 08, called “Healing Bridges, An Epic Journey from Massacres to Empowerment” as well as clothing line.
